For most regular or everyday cleaning – which is usually enough to remove dirt, dust and ‘shiny spots’ – the best approach to cleaning Nubuck leather is with a specially made Nubuck cloth. These can be purchased from most good retailers, and will have Nubuck cleaner integrated in their fibres. To keep its velvet-like nap, Nubuck must be cleaned and brushed regularly, otherwise, over time it will flatten down and become shiny, and turn into smooth leather.

For Nubuck leather boots or shoes, it is even recommended they be brushed gently after each wear. Things to avoid getting on this type of leather are oil based products, as these can soak deep into the surface and if left for too long will dry and cause a stain, also hot oil can burn the fibres causing a shadow.
